I’m reflecting on Hank ’s opinion about blogs that you have written.
I have a blog (hello?) and I’m absolutely not a stupid person (you can read my post to convince –you- what a modesty...).
I understand Hank’s words indicate a convinced personality that the literature is not on web.
Maybethis can be true for now,but the web IS the future of the literature and the future of languages too.
Your -and consequently- his opinion about blogs and web is an old opinion...like who still thinks is better write with pen than with the computer.
C’mon!
I also understand the lines against bloggers and our language are just to represent his depreciaton about whoring himself out to Hollywood, but the same lines put in danger the
character’s sympathy, considered that Hank Moody/DD has a large fandom on web.
Hank Moody maybe would be an old style writer, who admires the real(orthodox) literature but -frankly- that is in contrast with his previous affirmation or his reputation like writer.
First of all:Hank is an Ulysses by James Joyce’s fan (Hank writes on his blog _3ep :"In the land of the lotus-eaters..." putting in parallel the dubliners and the habitants of L.A. ,what is the postmodern ‘land of lost memories’).
Second:the radio’s speaker defines him "a famous novel author underground"…
Well, an underground author is supposed against just the old literature...he would write with a new style,a style revolutionary and then he despites new web language?
Sorry but it is not credible.
(AND not to mention politic or social blogs -by istitution that help people-they are the true revolutionaries of this century)
My reaction is not like Meredith’s character on the same episode.I'm not touched from the lines in question,I’m just thinking about art...literature...and Hank Moody.
Keep in touch,dear…

“It's primarily an empty experience. He's not using sex as a way of getting closer to somebody. He's using it as a way to stay detached and remote”
Tom Kapinos,Hank Moody’s creator.
Sex often is a battle.
But for Hank it's more than that...For him,it's also a way for umiliate himself and his actual life style.
He is remote and detached and uses sex to increase the disguste for his situation.
The final scene from the second ep says all about this…
Hank doesn't love himself because he thinks he has destroyed his familiar union.
But is Hank a new Casanova?
Surely no way...Casanova falled in love for every woman he loved,Hank loves only Karen.
-By the way...She has betrayed him before, although she denies it.
From Pilot:
“Hank:You, started when you cheated on me!Karen:I did NOT...cheat on you!Hank:In what universe is fucking someone when you're--when you're married to someone else not cheating?Karen:Oh, the one in which we were never actually married.Hank :That's a bullshit technicality!” -
Then is Hank a Don Juan?
Maybe not :Don Juan considered a woman like a number, another one on the list,a number to encrease the catalogue, without selective criterion.
Don Juan is a great lies teller,Hank is a great truth teller... his glance is cinical about L.A.,but never about its women.
Don Juan, until his end, is not cinical but proud with himself, instead Hank is disgusted with himself.
Anyway,Hank doesn’t fall in love with every women who meet, and at the same time he respects all of female people who fuck.
(from Hank’s blog: why is the City of Angels so hellbent on destroying its female population?)
Hank care about City of Angels’ women.
My opinion is:Hank loves Karen, but Karen cheated him.So he goes around to fuck anyone just to continue to suffer, until Karen will returns.

Edit by birDDer aT Saturday, August 25, 2007
I’m puzzled: why the novel called "God Hates Us All" can be a movie called "A Crazy Thing Called Love"??
A simple answer:because Hollywood takes part of it!
No,really …
The verbal game between "hate / love" is easy to explain…but I ask myself WHY God would have to hate all of us?
Maybe is not God but Father the real deal?
This is an answer that leads straight towards one of Hank’s problems: his role of father.
Does Hank feel his father hate him?Did He grow up without a paternal figure?
Now he mindful of that does not know to make the father?
Or is just a religious problem?
On the Pilot’s beginning,Hank talks whit God -searching an answer- therefore God has the answers of every human destiny,in Hank’s opinion finally.
I want to read the novel of Hank!
The title seems is chosen by a french existentialist philosopher!

Mulder: I really want to get back my sister
Q:Do you have a favorite drink?

Hank: In myself and in my disastrous -for now - relationship.
Mulder:Out there!
Q:What's your preferred scent?
Hank:Eau de Pussy...
Mulder:I don’t know its name-but at Comity-I sniffled it in the air…
Q:Do you smoke?
Hank: Oh yeah baby...
Mulder: I stopped to consider the possibility to begin a smoker when I met Mr. Daryl Weaver
Q:East coast or West Coast?
Hank: West coast
Mulder: East coast
Q: Tell me an adjective that define yourself
Hank: Dirty
Mulder: Spooky
Q:Favorite movie?
Hank:[laughing] Crazy little thing called love
Mulder: Plan 9 From Outer Space
Q: Bed or couch: which you choose?
Hank: Round bed.On it it’s better...

Hank:God hates us all
Mulder:I want to believe
Q:Define your bigger fixation.
Hank: Women
Mulder: Sunflower seeds
Q:Do you like sex?
Hank: It’s my problem!I’m enjoying it,but I'm realizing that probably my time could be spent better elsewhere
Mulder:Well...I’ll answer with a Woody Allen's famous quote:"Masturbation? It’s make sex with someone you love"
Q:Ok.I definitely assume you had casual sex,and you didn't know a lot about your partner. Anyway, the strangest girl you met was a...?
Hank:Under-age
Mulder:Vampire
Q:When was the last time you had sex?
Hank: Two hours ago
Mulder: Next question?

Auguri Mr.D

Hank Moody asks God to help him, but…what the hell doesn’t work in his life?
Why doesn't he try to consider his life in positive way?
A loved daughter, a successful novels, many lovers, a woman to love… but therefore,Californication would not have more reasons of being, sure of that!
I know what Mr Duchovny said about Hank Moody:"Besides being a guy who appears not to care so much about women, the heart of the show is that he really wants to get his family back. And this guy, who appears to be amoral, will end up being the most moral person in the particular universe. To me that was intriguing."
And I think: "Yes -wow- what is better than the own family?"
But the answer is : ALL that a human being can be beyond the own family!!!
To write,to love, the curiosity to know and experiment his self in the world, the chance to make mistake remaining innocent in spite of everything...
In "Thèorie du corps amoreux" (2000), Michel Onfray wrote about a laical ethics that is not amoral but epicurean, and I can quote a line in particular as salvation for Hank:"To eliminate that is accessory striking itself against requests that hinder the free disposition of himself, job, family, native land and other fakes values".
Now Hank is a free man, and except the crime to have made sex with an under-age, he isn't a criminal!C’mon!
Of course, in american style of life this is like a heresy, but in my *european* opinion I believe one alternative to family can exist and it's equally happy.
Perhaps here, this is the point, Hank is unhappy of his freedom.
Family is the heaven,Hank is new Adam...and like him he hopes to return in paradise, and in the meantime he is enjoying the Earth…is there anything wrong in this?
If Hank understand this, he would not be therefore unfortunate.Maybe...
------------
So che il signor Duchovny ha detto riguardo Hank: “Besides being a guy who appears not to care so much about women, the heart of the show is that he really wants to get his family back. And this guy, who appears to be amoral, will end up being the most moral person in the particular universe. To me that was intriguing."
Forse…

I saw it. I’m breathless,I love it!
Yesterday, Metro Goldwyn Mayer launched ‘Ninotchka’ with the tagline "Garbo Laughs!";
today, Showtime could launch ‘Californication’ with the tagline ‘Duchovny fuck!’, finally…
Seriously,the pilot is very good.
DD plays Hank with conviction and sympathy:bye bye Monotone, welcome Passionate.
Hank...His behavior is morally reprehensible, but -at the end of the pilot- it's a glimpse of melancholy for a better style of life.
The character is well written by Tom Kapinos, but Stephen Hopkins’s direction is static: the camera uses often a medium shot -and in the editing- the passages from a scene to another are abrupts. Only the close-up on DD save us from this.
Maybe the initial blasphemy can offend someone, but I believe that a show must create something new, or it should invite to think about some subjects in a different way.
Will Californication do it?
Sex,religion, paternity, love’s feelings, lack of creativity are the password to Californication, even if not necessarily in this order...
For now I enjoy Hank Moody and his upset/messy life.
-------------------------------------
Seriamente,lo show è molto buono.

The symbol.
Apple is also the symbol of the feminine body, in the offer made to the male with the attempt to be completed.
But…
After the years of the feminine movement, the women conquered the political power and also they have gotten rid of their bodies with the contraceptive pill'…and now, is there a place for what kind of a man?
Hank Moody is doubtful… “Have I accept or not the apple?”
But Hank’s women should be the most doubtful: “How to reorganize my own life with Hank?”
Becca, the daughter, judges him but she actually loves him;
Former girlfriend loves him too, but she doesn’t accept his emotional and new sexual habits.
His lovers make themselves to satisfy… but they know that Hank will be one of the many.
And Hank /DD female fans: which it is their doubt about Hank ? When I see the pilot I will answer at least for me!
---------------
Becca lo giudica ma in fondo lo ama;
La ex girlfriend lo ama ma non accetta le sue abitudini emotive e sessuali ;

The sexuality and the fantasmatic life of the unconscious -simbolized by the apple- have been therefore the two faces with which the eros has been put to the judgment of the western world(A.Dorella).
Hank Moody was tempted –like new Adam- from an easy sexuality, but he becomes so absorbed by this that he doesn’t succeed in writing like he would.
If like the eros must be lived or imagined…Does exist an intermediate path?
Will Californication give an answer about it?
-----

It’s time to say something about Californication. If you are a DDWatcher, you understand of what I’m talking about. But if you are thinking at the beautiful song of RHCP you should see this link http://www.sho.com/site/californication/home.do before read the rest of this post.I’m not going to talk about Hank Moody or anything else about him, because I’ll do this after USA Premiere (on air 08/13/07).But I want to say something about an object which (in my opinion) is important in this promotional period: the red apple. Ehy,I don’t say a simple apple I imply *that* red apple...you know what I mean, c’mon don’t pretend to don’t understand!I’m one of those who few time ago had seen a picture of a 46 years old man with a red apple and I’m the one of those who then had serious trouble to return on real life without permanent, mental damages. It could be called "hormonal festival".
I don’t know if it's fault of some strange power of american apples(have they it?) or of the incredible Mr.Duchovny sex appeal, but I have to confess it.... from the moment I’ve seen those pictures,I considered the apples under another interesting point of view.
If you have seen those too, you’ll understand this praise of the red apple…YUM!

----------------------------
I've read "Moon Dust" by Andrew Smith because DD did the same.
The book is about all the astronauts who walked on the Moon.
Smith sets out to find and interwiew the remaining moonwalkers.
In my opinion,I dislike this book because he is too much present with his personal memories ,but I like his enthusiasm when he meet his 'idols'.
Where are they now?
Someone founded a church, someone goes to Star Trek conventions, someone -like Bean- paints only lunar subjects http://www.alanbeangallery.com and Aldrin who became a sci fi author.
I ask my self if DD founded some spiritual or ethic answer,i did not !
